POWER OF THE MIND By Ria Nair from Amity University, Mumbai
“Knowledge of the material world; its purest form is Science, and when put to practical use, it becomes technology.” – P.M. Bakshi
Curious to know the “why” of everything happening around you? Well, if you are thinking about it, that itself puts you on the right track. Atomic physics has proved that every particle is made up of atoms that have subatomic particles revolving around each other and hence creating vibrations. Cognitive science has proved that each thought produced is a vibration that travels and has a result. And the basic third law of motion states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Wondering where I am going with this? It is simple! Each and every one of your thought manifests itself.
Each of your thoughts is converted into a chemical impulse that is transmitted through your body. Hence, we have a complete co-ordination of our sensory and motor organs. You perform actions based on your experiences and knowledge which are reminded and evaluated in your mind through your thought process. Therefore, it can be said that every thought is the basic unit to every consequence. Our everyday functioning is the example of the short-term consequence of our thoughts. What about the complex, long-term culmination?
The cells in our body are made up of basic compounds of chemicals. It is prone to undergo simultaneous processes due to the entry and exit of various metallic and non-metallic atoms and compounds. These processes lead to the cell, being effective in carrying out the function it was modified for. Similarly, any chemical alteration due to change in the level of hormones, entry of viruses, etc., can affect the modification of such function-specific cells. The levels of hormones, specifically, are entirely dependent on the situation the brain is subjected to. Hormones can change gene expression or cellular function, and affect behaviour by increasing the likelihood that specific behaviours occur in the presence of precise stimuli.[i] Studies prove that the social environment one is subjected to have an effect on the secretion of hormones. Hence, we can infer that the situations that one is subjected to can either have a positive or a negative impact on the formation of cells and hence it’s functioning. Another study, conducted by Japanese scientist Dr. Masaru Emoto on the effects of words, prayer, thoughts on the formation of water molecules proves that the molecules took different shapes depending on the emotional conditioning.[ii] Therefore, it can again be deduced that formation and functioning of cells can be influenced by the quality of our thoughts.
These findings can help us conclude that the upliftment of the quality of our thoughts has a fundamental and significant impact on our bodies. Thoughts not only affect the system around us but also have a consequential effect on the system that runs us. Hence, the long-term effect of negative, derogatory or dismissive thoughts are as follows:
- Chronic depression and feeling of isolation, paving way for diseases and being prone to situations that lead to low self-esteem, low immunity and weakness.
- Creating an environment where there is no scope for improvement, growth or progress.
These effects can harm in ways that not only damage our present body and environment but lay down a path that leads to the permanent disintegration of both. Hence, awareness of the power of the mind is vital to understanding, elevating and evolving the well-being of all, your mind, body and hence the entire world that revolves around you.
Lastly, the answer as to “why” things happen goes back to the theory of vibration mentioned earlier. Every particle vibrates and creates waves and also due to the electromagnetic and gravitational energy reaches the person, particle or organization it was meant to. This commences a cycle of response which is an equal and opposite stimulus to your thought and a reaction comes your way. It can be positive or negative. It could be uplifting and neutralizing or demeaning and provocative. Either way, the cycle continues. It is our choice whether we get affected by the actions and thoughts of the ones around us or we take control of the most powerful control panel we own and re-energize ourselves to negate anything negative and create something meaningful and positively fruitful. It may all seem like a theory and just another view of a person who believes in the soul, but what is the harm in actually trying out once? Maybe you will be surprised at the power that you possess and discover something entirely new!
