Gauri Lankesh Murder: The Right to life, belief and expression violated
“Journalism without a moral position is impossible”
- Marguerite Duras
The fear and violence has threatened us from the very core. We are living in traitorous times. India has NEVER faced such a robust and threat to its democracy, as our Constitutional rights is vague, we are forced to live in silence and what not. From past two decades Karnataka’s politics has been to turbulence and the focus has been on religion, language and caste.
Disregarding having such a large amount of dread to life, some still keep on speaking out yet are gunned down ruthlessly to stop their "daring voice". Gauri Lankesh, a journalist, and an activist is the latest victim who was shot dead at her residence on September 5 because she boldly and stridently spoke her views. This is not a new fashion, in Narendra Dabholkar (2013), M.M. Kalburgi (2015), CPI leader Govind Pansare (2015) have been the target of the coward killers in the different states. Gauri strictly opposed the inequality, caste system, the communal politics, and gender discrimination. The qualities of being blunt, bold, sharp, critical, feisty made her enemies more than her friends. She made a successful meeting between the Naxalites and the government. She also demanded the separate religious tag for the community named as ‘Lingayat’. It is important for the police to now conduct a time bound probe in order to unearth the questions related to her murder. Who killed her? Who ordered to kill her? What was the motive behind this act?
Protests erupted outside her residence in Bengaluru, soon after she was murdered. The protester centered the state government because the government has failed to protect the fearless voice of Gauri and Kalburgi. Her brother has demanded the CBI investigation in this case. Her family had made a request not to give her executing the 'political shading' as a gigantic political slugfest has ejected soon after her killing and every political party wanted to color this tragic casualty for their own benefit. The family is looking into all angles related to her death whether it is Naxals or right wings.
Gauri Lankesh is not the first to be hushed and not the last one too until and unless the state don't stand firm to secure the Democratic and Constitutional rights of an individual but sadly no political party has this in their agenda.
