With the advent of automation and human robots, there is growing concern that in development, evolvement and further up gradation will act as a job killer for engineering segment. Many economists and futurists believe that the coming days for some engineering segment jobs is bleak and it will be taken over by the human robots and automatic machineries’.
Many futurists and industrialist are of the view that robots will be a solemn completion to the human counterpart. They believe that robot work tirelessly for numerous hours in a day, without talking breaks. All they will need is a few hours of Electronic recharge. A robot can drive a car, can fetch objects, carry objects from one place to another, builds roads, construct houses, cut woods etc. they believes robots can do multifarious works with all kinds of degrees of difficulty involved, without complaining and questioning thereby replacing the value of a humans labor.
It further raises a doubt, if a robot can perform all these works with an cases, why would any company employ human worker who they will have to pay salary, health insurance, provide human amount just working conditions, give them weekly leaves, treats the labor and their trade union it par give them position in administration post as per the labour law, provide long leaves for pregnant women, provide crèches for lactation mothers, pension offer retirement so on and so forth.
There are multiple jobs whose future doesn’t look as bright as for as automatic engineering is concerned. Many jobs which involve only a fraction of manly labor will be affected with the up gradation of machinery and technology.
Many drivers whose job is to deliver package from one place to another along the designated route can lose their jobs with up gradation in automation. Bus driver, truck driver, face serious problem threat for being replaced by driverless cars or self-driver cars. Driverless cars are known for their 24 7 attentiveness on the road, a human cannot beat the high speed reflex of a robot. These drivers may be punished out of their job firstly because a self-driving automatic car, trucks, taxi, bus, train etc. doesn’t need break during their working hours. Few governments in Europe like Germany, France has already stared pitching up for self-driving cars in their country. France has already started drone for postal services. And technology is supporting these imaginations in automation these self-driving cars will act as an elevator which will start with only a switch. The automation in this segment will seriously dent the case of senior drivers approaching their retirement age who might not got another jobs in different fields as learning new skills out of the blue is imagined to be difficult.
Farmer are the next who can be at the receiving end of automation. We know a great deal if people are employed in agriculture in the developing past if the world. Farming labor intensive and require lot of man power as far as huge fields are concerned. But not anymore all thanks to specialized farming hardware and driverless tractors and machines. Many development economies of the worlds has already replaced labor with automated machineries which can be operated from sitting in the comfort of your office thought wireless technique. back in a day we needed to physically measure our pieces of land and huge human labor to need it out and another set of people to harvest and transport the end product. But situation has changed drastically now we measure the part of our land with drone or satellite imaginary harvesting is done with a special mechanized harvesting trunk. Many big industries nestle, Amazon etc are employing self automated machinery in farming sector.
Another sector is the printers are published. Today news is easy to get online and that too free. The printers and publishers are facing huge competition from online multi-thread news which are easy to get with a tap of a finger and that too without paying. Readers these days prefer a PDF file to read a novel, news, piece of information etc rather than the bungling piece of paper.
Cashier in the super market/ store can also bear the brunt of automation. In fact many bigger super markets has already employed highly intelligent devices in the store, where in a customer walks in buy stuff, pay with their electronic cards thought the devices and walks out. Similarly the people working in the toll plazas can lose their job with the emergence of the concept of electronics toll payment. The government of India has developed FASTAG is a device that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for making toll payment directly from the prepaid account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of vehicle and enables the car thought toll plazas without delay.
Geniture of various e-travel parts, apps and platform has certainly side lined the travel agent acres’ the globe. Unlike the past, people don’t require approaching a travel agent but they rely or trust the user friendly online travel company to book flight tickets, domestic and international holiday packages, hotel reservation, rail, bus tickets etc.
Automation in several other fields smoothen the efficiency of the working force. Let take an example of traffic controller where in there is automatic system which controls the traffic non-mechanically. It is easy to execute and the same traffic controller can be employed for other difficult jobs example wherein automation has and will hit upon job is surveillance and secreting through automatic upgrade did and precision proof CCTV and monitors. It has pushed the poor, unskilled watchman, guards, security personnel’s out of the jobs. Many society complex’s administration reckon surveillances cameras as regard to manual watchman. There has been instance where the number of guards has been reduced. These people find really difficult to fetch another job at their senescence.
We have noticed trend of having fewer and fewer telemarketer. Their entire industry is being taken over by targeted ads all around the internet and all of our devices specially constructed based on the information that tech giants have gathered from our use on their platform. Face book for instance is not a charity. It uses all the data from the things we like, click on, and share or engage with, to create a custom profile for every single one of its users. Patch them and sell them to other companies they based on our likes, dislikes, search and pattern, make a profile and hence we came across the ads, links, news in our browser of a particular type. Ads are getting obsolete.
Although the number are not clear but there are approximately around 200 million people working around constructed. Since the developing country wanting to expand one would expect the number to be on the rise, but surprisingly it isn’t and that’s because the technology is getting more and more efficient and affordable. Developers now need more machines and slightly more specialized work force to use that machine to build. As the technology progresses we can see that construction worker will follow the same path as those who used to work in the farming industry in the past. Unless one is owner of the enterprises or one of those specialized employees who is integrals for the work force future doesn’t look as promising to the employees lower down the order.
At the same time the assumption, observation are not prophesies. There is few more angle to touch and few more areas to be explored. Automation in various fields is two sides of the same coin. Automation up gradation of technologies has increased the efficiency precision and accuracy on one hand and also had led to develop some news jobs and mechanism on the other. Let take some example the rise and popularity of online e-commerce shopping platform which was earlier believed to be a job/ occupation cutter for the other traditional traders and shopkeepers. There was huge outer at the natal of these shopping platform that it will prove to be doom for traditional market, but on the contrary it has led to the development of jobs especially for the algorithmic engineers etc. as well as for the unskilled youth. Many industries has seen growth with the rise of these shopping platform. Companies like Amazon, myntra, eBay, flip kart, snap deal has collaborated with the local traders for these supply. Many unskilled youth has been employed as these supplier and courier staff for these companies. The rise of fooding portals like pizza, food ponds etc. has employed youth for their door to door delivery. These angles also cannot be ignored. Multinational e-commerce Corporation facilitate consumer to consumer and business to consumer sales.
Technology and manufacturing have always co-existed, new technology means more efficiency upgrading and launch of various users friendly online banking apps has unbounded advantages. It has made the life easier. It has facilitates better business transaction, sales, purchase, e-money transfer without directly taking help of any bank employee who in turn can be employed for better and important work like research and development, date analysis bad money trailing, scrutinizing foul or shoddy bank shopping accounts, providing better bank services etc. during the period of demonetization last year, it was the bank staff and manpower which was employed for recalibrations and refilling of ATM in various part of the countries.
Highly specialized and efficient drones are used to compliment the security personnel these days. These drones has only made the work easier and effective but cannot replace the police force altogether. Drones are used as lenses equipped cameras, it is being used as a delivery mechanism but still it requires brain behind it to operate properly. It facilitate even more job for other person who prepare the model software and another set of industry to assemble the parts. There are many other views that automation is a part of the industry not the core. It is developed only to support, equip and customized the look force better. The same narrative was being pitched in the late 80’s when computers were being introduced for the first time in the country that it will create job loss for the many people.
The prophesies believed that computer will replace the manpower altogether. Not only it has simplified our works but also help in creating more and more desk jobs. It help India to grow as a prominent IT and software industry. Indian student can now find job overseas very easier now.
Automation and robotics can play a very pivotal role in the area where it is difficult or menial for human to do it. The case of manual seavanging is a serious problem at our hands. These menial works is beyond the esteem of any human being. Automation in these fields has proved to be a great experienced. We can employee various specialized machines for seavanging purpose and help in liberating so many people who has been exploited for centuries. Various road sweeping machines, road cleaners, large vacuum swappers as of great help which can clean the road many a kilometer in just a hour.
There is a simple example where we have observed that many profession and occupation are under the shadow of being replaced or get affected at least. What shall be our way ahead to protect these sector from falling apart or protecting the people afraid of being pushed away in the future due to automation one of the very first which should be taken is to give proper skill training to the unskilled people. Proficiency and skill are two tools which automation can’t beat at least in the near future. Awareness and knowledge is another set of things to be dispensed with the help vulnerable sectors. Collaboration of automation and skill of manpower is another projection which could be highly successful for the manufacturing industries.
Automation has certainly affected some sector in the market but if proper steps could be taken much before its too late than tool rather than a danger. our government has pitched the idea of skill development through various schemes. This will certainly help commoners to their skill, if implemented properly.
